Oliver is Six!

Almost a month late, I am finally posting about Oliver's birthday! Last month, Oliver turned six. His birthday was on a Thursday, and he brought cupcakes to school that day. He had his party the following Saturday at the park. He chose to have a "Minion" party based on the little yellow characters from the Despicable Me movies. Luckily the weather was nice and the party went well!

Oliver got lots of Legos!

Oliver has had a great sixth year! He started kindergarten and is beginning to read. He loves school and his teacher. He learned to whistle and snap his fingers (very important!) and is taking violin at school. He played t-ball in the fall and enjoyed it. Both boys have also been taking swimming lessons. He loves to color, write, and draw, play with Legos, climb trees, and play with his brother. He is rambunctious and silly, but also very sensitive. He is a fun kid to be around!

Halloween 2013

This year the boys decided to dress as Star Trek characters. We've been watching the original Star Trek series on Netflix and they have really been enjoying it. They decided (mostly because of hair color) that Henry should be Spock and Oliver should be Captain Kirk.

Henry practiced a lot on that Vulcan finger thing!

I hope you had a happy Halloween!

Camping at Little Ocmulgee

I am so behind on this blog! I'd like to post about Oliver's birthday, but I need to catch up first. So...back in October (the 11th-13th) we went camping. We were originally planning to go to Okefenokee, but that's a national park and the government was shut down, so we went to a little state park not too far from home called Little Ocmulgee. We had a lovely and relaxing time.
Setting Up Camp - Our new tent is very large.

Here's the boys' side.

And ours - note the air mattress on our side!

Trail Guide

We went for a very peaceful canoe trip.

Vultures were waiting to eat whatever was left of us after
the alligators got us! ;)

That's a heron up there. We didn't really see any gators.

The park had mini-golf.

And tennis!

Jiffy Pop!

I think we will probably go back to Little Ocmulgee. It only took a little over an hour to get there and it was very fun!

South Carolina Beach Trip

Matt's dad was in an art show this past weekend at Huntington Beach State Park in South Carolina. We had the opportunity to take a weekend trip there and stay with Grandma and Grandpa Jennings in their beach rental. It was a bit of a whirlwind--a 5.5 hour drive for a short weekend trip--but we had a great time!

While we waited for the art show to begin, we walked on the beach at the state park. It was beautiful.

Grandpa's Tent

There happened to be a free sidewalk chalk contest going on outside of the art show. The boys and I decided to decorate a square. Henry designed the mountain picture and Oliver came up with the idea of adding dinosaurs. Matt and Joyce and I helped fill in some of the colors.

Here is one of Ollie's dinos.

In the afternoon, we left Grandpa at the show and went to the beach. The water was cold, but the boys went in anyway.

Back at the show, we picked Grandpa up to go to dinner.

And on our way out we discovered that the Dino Land picture won third place! How exciting! (And the next morning I got a call that Henry and Oliver's $25 prize check is in the mail!)

Sunday morning we had breakfast with Grandma and Grandpa, took a few pictures, and then got back on the road to go home.

It was a nice little break from the routine!
